Overview

A platform built for visibility and growth.

AFSEN Africa needed more than a traditional website. The goal was a digital platform capable of communicating the organisation's impact, publishing dynamic content, attracting partners and donors, and supporting future organisational growth through a scalable architecture.

MODULE 01 — PUBLIC WEBSITE

Public Website

A responsive website showcasing programmes, projects, publications, news, events, partnerships and organisational impact.

MODULE 02 — CUSTOM CMS

Problem & Solution

Turning organisational complexity into clarity.

Before redevelopment, AFSEN Africa needed more than a visual refresh. The challenge was building a platform that could communicate impact, improve accessibility, simplify content management and give the organisation a scalable foundation for future growth.

Problem

The previous online presence lacked a clear structure, making it difficult for visitors to understand the organisation's programmes, projects and impact. Content updates were inefficient, navigation was inconsistent, and the platform offered limited flexibility for future expansion.

× Outdated visual identity
× Difficult navigation
× Manual, developer-led updates
× Inconsistent responsiveness
Solution

I designed and built a complete digital platform: a high-performance public website paired with a custom content management system. The build prioritised usability, scalability, accessibility and long-term maintainability, while giving administrators full control over website content.

Build Timeline

A structured path from discovery to deployment.

The project followed a workflow that balanced business requirements, user experience and technical implementation — each phase building on the last so the final platform stayed scalable, maintainable and aligned with AFSEN Africa's objectives.

WEEK 1

Discovery & Planning

Stakeholder interviews, information architecture and a project roadmap.

WEEK 2

Design & UX

Responsive layouts, a visual system and navigation built for accessibility.

WEEKS 3–4

Application Development

Public website and CMS built with reusable components, auth and integrations.

WEEK 5

Testing & Deployment

Cross-device QA, SEO, analytics, indexing and production deployment.

Architecture

Structured for long-term growth.

Beyond the interface, the platform is organised around a modular architecture that separates presentation, business logic, data management and external services — easier to maintain, extend and scale as needs evolve.

System Design Principles

01 — LAYERED ARCHITECTURE

Business logic, presentation and data access are separated into independent layers to simplify maintenance.

02 — MODULAR COMPONENTS

Reusable UI components and shared layouts keep the platform consistent and reduce duplicate code.

03 — SECURE BY DESIGN

Authentication, server-side validation and secure content management protect organisational data.

Challenges & Solutions

Real problems, practical fixes.

Every project surfaces technical and design obstacles. Here's what came up during AFSEN Africa's build, and how each one was resolved.

Challenge

Organising a large volume of content

The organisation needed to present programmes, projects, blogs, publications and organisational information without overwhelming visitors or confusing the navigation.

Solution

Clear information architecture

Restructured the navigation, grouped related content into logical sections and designed consistent layouts that make information easier to discover on any device.

Challenge

A consistent mobile experience

A large share of visitors arrive on mobile, so every page needed to stay readable, fast and easy to navigate.

Solution

Mobile-first responsive design

Flexible layouts, optimised media and adaptive navigation deliver a strong experience on every screen size.

Challenge

Performance as content grows

Rich media, growing content and added functionality risked slowing load times and overall performance.

Solution

Performance optimisation

Images optimised through Cloudinary, assets compressed, SEO best practices applied, and efficient rendering kept the application fast.

Challenge

Simplifying website management

Administrators needed to update projects, blogs, media and content without relying on developers.

Solution

Custom content management system

A secure ASP.NET Core CMS lets administrators manage content, media, users and updates through an intuitive dashboard.
